Weekly update

We have had a lovely first week back in school! This afternoon we watched Sutton Park's Got Talent Show. We really enjoyed watching all the different acts from across the school.

In Literacy, we have worked hard writing our version of the story 'Snail and the Whale'. The children have written some amazing stories. As the transition to Year 2 approaches, it is very important children are writing in sentences with a capital letter, finger spaces and full stops. The children have worked hard all year, we want them to now apply all the things they have learnt and showcase the skills they have.

In Maths, the children have started to look at division. We started by looking at doubles, understanding doubling and halving helps children have a better understanding when dividing. We used practical objects to make doubles and then halves.

We would like the children to practice doubling and halving this weekend.
The children can represent their answers however they choose.

This weeks spellings are common spellings across the class the children are struggling with.

Have a brilliant weekend!

Weekly spellings

We are back on the blog!!

This week in Literacy we have been looking at the book 'The snail and the whale' and other Julia Donaldson books. The children have written a recount about the snails journey. As we are quickly approaching Year 2, it is important that the children are consistently writing sentences using a capital letter, full stop and finger spaces. The children also need to understand and use correctly, nouns, adjectives and verbs. Any practise of this at home would be brilliant!

In Maths we have been looking at arrays, identifying columns and rows. This is a very difficult concept for the children to understand. We have been working practically with objects to represent the stories - 'there are 3 rows, 4 counters in each row'/ 'there are 4 columns, 6 sweets in each column'.

In topic we have been learning all about 'Lillian Bilocca', and how someone from the past has made a difference. The children have created posters, factfiles and a paintings all about Lillian. Their knowledge is fantastic!

This weeks spellings:

Enjoy your half term and have a well deserved break!

Weekly homework

We have had an amazing first week back! All the children have come back after Easter ready to learn and very focused!

In Maths this week we have been looking at counting in 10's forwards and backwards from any given number. We have been looking at patterns when counting in 10's for example: 7,17,27,37,47 - the ones stay the same and then 10's go up by 1 ten each time. Any practice you do at home would be fantastic!

In Literacy we have started our new book 'Man on the Moon'! The children have been writing diary entries, postcards and even created their own 'souvenir stall' for the tourists who visit space.

In topic we started the week with a space quiz, which the children loved! We then moved on to make our moon with paper mache! We all found this very tricky but they are starting to come together, we just need to add on the craters.

This week every child has been in school everyday, just a reminded to get 100% attendance children need to be on time. We all have our fingers crossed that we will win the attendance trophy on Monday!

Can you find 3 objects around the house and compare them to one another?
Using the words (taller, tall, tallest, shorter, short, shortest).
For example - the book is taller than the shoe. The milk carton is tall but the door is taller. My teddy is the shortest.

Welcome back.

The attendance for 1HA the week before half term was 94.7%. We need to be getting at least 96%. We really want to win the attendance trophy next week. Lets try to be in school and on time every day this week.

Thank you for your continued support.
